One of the finest young quartets to emerge recently from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Aquilae Quartet will be playing Dvorak’s lyrical and optimistic American Quartet, Haydn’s “Joke” Quartet, and Schulhoff’s dynamic Five Pieces for String Quartet.

First formed in September 2020 as a group of new undergraduate students at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD), the Quartet brings together Polish, Scottish and Cornish backgrounds. Two of their coaches there have played recently in Victoria Hall, Ursula Smith (Cello in the Fitzwilliam String Quartet) and Sarah-Jane Bradley (viola in the Karolos Trio).

The Aquilae Quartet have been performing around the UK including a concert series in Penzance and the UK premiere of the Bacewicz Quartet No.6 at the ‘Dante Festival’ where they also formed one half of the Mendelssohn Octet. They regularly perform for the GSMD in both recital settings and its annual ‘GSMD Chamber Festival’, playing a huge variety of repertoire ranging from early baroque to contemporary and many genres in between. At Sir Keir Starmer’s invitation, they played at 10 Downing Street in June 2024.
